Tips, corrections, and editorial inquiries all reach our team through this page. Here is how to get in touch and what happens next — including which route fits your message and when a reply is likely.

Send a news tip

If you have information about the 2026 midterms, a policy fight, or a figure we cover, we want to hear it. Tell us what you know and how you know it, without sending anything you are not comfortable sharing. Tips get priority over everything else that comes in.

We treat your message and contact details as confidential. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data.

Report a correction

If you spot an error, tell us the article and what is wrong. Corrections appear on the article and in a running log, and we note what changed. We would rather hear it from you than leave it up. Include a link if you have one.

  1. 01

    Name the article

Give us the headline or a link so we can find the exact page you are reading.

  2. 02

    Show what is wrong

Quote the sentence and say what the correct version should be, with a source if you have one.

  3. 03

    We verify, then publish

An editor on that beat checks the claim. If it holds, the article is amended and the change is logged.

Corrections that change a fact of record are published the day we confirm them. Wording fixes and broken links are handled quietly in the same pass.

Editorial inquiries and press

Editorial inquiries

Questions about our coverage or standards

For questions about how we report, why a story was framed a certain way, or what a piece left out, use this route. We read everything, though we cannot always reply individually. If your question is about how we work, the How We Report page likely answers it faster.

Partnerships and press

Media requests and collaborations

For partnership or press inquiries, use the contact form and pick the right category so it reaches the right person. Media requests for comment go to the press route.

We do not accept payment for coverage. Offers to buy favorable stories are ignored, and we would rather you spend that budget elsewhere.

What happens after you write

We read every message. What happens next depends on what you sent, and it is worth knowing before you press send.

Tips

Routed to the editor covering that beat, usually the same day. If the beat spans two desks, the first editor takes it.

Corrections

Verified against the source material and published on the article if warranted, with the change noted in the running log.

Editorial inquiries

Answered when we can, often by pointing you to the standard or article that already covers the question.

Partnership and press

Forwarded to the person handling that category. Comment requests get a reply when a reporter is available to talk.

If you do not hear back within a few days, it is not because we ignored you. Send a follow-up if it is time-sensitive, and put the original subject line back in so we can find the first message.

Privacy of your message

We treat your message and contact details as confidential. We do not sell them or share them outside the editorial team. If you are a source, we protect your identity as a matter of policy — including from colleagues who are not working on the story. Records stay inside the editorial system, and access is limited to the people who need it to verify or report the story.

If you would rather not use the form at all, you can reach us at [email protected] or call +1 202-496-1055 during office hours.

Find the office

Visits are by appointment so the desk is not left unattended during reporting hours. Call or email before you come by and we will meet you downstairs.

Questions we get before sending anything

How long does it take to get a reply?

We read every message, but we cannot always reply individually. If you do not hear back within a few days, send a follow-up if it is time-sensitive.

Can I send a tip anonymously?

Yes. Say so in your first message and we will protect your identity as a matter of policy. You can leave the name field blank and use an email address you are comfortable sharing, or use the phone number during office hours instead.

Do you accept payment for coverage?

No. We do not accept payment for coverage or favorable stories. Offers get ignored, and the same goes for requests to remove a story that was reported accurately.

What should I not send?

Do not send anything you are not comfortable handing over, and do not send material you obtained illegally. If a document would put you at risk, tell us what it says and let an editor decide whether we need to see the original.

Still deciding where to send it?

If it is about a story we published, a correction is usually the right route. If it is something you know that we do not, use the form at the top of this page. For background on how we work before you write, start with the pages below.
